The Ross Pennsylvania Room houses current and historical materials highlighting topics and authors indigenous to Pennsylvania.  The collection is intended to supplement genealogy resources and includes:

1940 Census Available Online

April 2 marked the end of a 72-year holding period for the 1940 U.S. Census. Now, you can browse all the Census forms received that year and view interesting facts and statistics. It's great for genealogists or even if you're just curious about the past.

The Ross Library genealogy collection seeks to provide users with vital materials for researching local genealogy questions. 

Requests for genealogy or PA-Look-ups are taken at Ross and Renovo Library's main circulation desk, by phone Ross (570) 748-3321 or Renovo (570) 923-0390 or by e-mail or A researcher is available at Ross Library on Wednesdays. There is a fee for information found and mailed.

The collection includes books, primary source materials, and local genealogies.  Materials focus on Clinton, Centre, Lycoming and Clearfield counties, but also include data related to outlying PA areas, as well as the US and abroad.  The collection includes both print and digital media.

People for Better Pennsylvania Historical Records Access (PaHR-Access)

Sloan Room @ Ross

Call to request a visit to the local John Sloan collection.  The collection includes both originals and copies of Sloan's work, personal effects, and commemorative memorabilia.  The world-class famous American painter and etcher was a Lock Haven native who visited the area on occasion to participate in university and civic events. He was a member of the Ashcan School of Art painting human lifestyles. He also painted portraits and landsapes. Most of the items in the John Sloan collection were bequeathed by his widow, Helen Farr Sloan, an advocate of the Ross Library.

Audiobooks and Music on  CD
Fiction and nonfiction book titles. Music CD offer a wide collection of artists from Americana to Christmas, Classics, Country, Inspirational, Jazz, Vocalists and more.

BiFokal Kits

Over 25 Multi-media kits about nostalgic themes from the past are useful for groups or agencies. Some topics include Remembering Automobiles, The Depression, The Fifties and Sixties, Birthdays and various holidays. The items are checked out for three weeks and have a variety of activities like games, songs, skits, memoriablila of the era, videos and dvd to brighten up any event.

Books; Colleges and scholarship materials; Civil Service, GED, SAT, GRE, ASVB test materials.

Computers and Free Wi-Fi
Public computers with Internet Access are available in both the adult and children’s libraries. Users must have a valid library card to access the computers and must register at the circulation desk. Fee of $0.25 per sheet for printed copies, only black and white prints available.

eBooks and Downloadable Audiobooks
Can be accessed from the homepage. Must have a library card in good standing and library code of pl3109 to check out books. eBooks can be read on your computer, smartphone, iPad or tablet, and most eBook readers, including Kindle. Audiobooks will play on computers and most portable devices. Most applications will require some form of software download from the Overdrive website to manipulate the files to play on your devices.

Local people, places and events are indexed in the Local Name Index File of over 180,000 entries..

Large Print Materials
Books available in large print began as a gift from the Rotary of Lock Haven. This service has been continued by the Clinton County Community Foundation, Lock Haven Lioness Group and State Grants.

Movies - DVD
Plenty of choices. Lots of genres. Fifty cents per night to rent. Please return in Media book drop - to avoid damage. Two dollars per day late fee.

Stephen Poorman Trust Entrepreneurship, Business and Finance Collection -   Entrepreneurs, existing business owners and start-up operators now have even more resources at the Ross Library. For those who are thinking of acquiring their own business, the Ross Library is an essential resource for research materials. An entire section on the first floor main room is now dedicated to Entrepreneurship, Business, Finance and Banking material. New books arrive monthly covering all aspects of business, how to get started, where to get financing and how to value a company. Other important topics include the business and social aspects of the gas and oil industry and, in particular, benefits and disadvantages of drilling activity.return to top.
